Surplus-enjoyment
The excess enjoyment produced not by satisfying desire, but by its repetition.
I wrote this term down while listening to Slavoj Žižek in Amsterdam in 2023.
I later realized it wasn’t just something he mentioned, but it was one of Lacan’s central ideas, and even the title of one of Žižek’s books.
I still haven’t fully understood it.
